Interaction Design – State of Mind application

An iPhone application that attempts to help people capture enriching activities and allow retrieval at the moment when they will be most beneficial: when the user is in the appropriate state of mind for them.

Concept

A generative and multi-user installation, The Garden of the Singing Flowers was conceived as an experience that combines ludic and an aesthetic components. As participants move about, flowers appear and disappear before them, generating sounds with changing pitches and timbres. Compositions are different each time the space is entered.

Two versions of this installation explored different aesthetic directions. Disquieting sounds accompany flowers generated using Fermat’s curve equation in the first version, creating a low tech, science inspired feel. The second version aims at a more evocative atmosphere: translucid petals form ethereal flowers that sing a warmer sound.
